More importantly, those fans will discover that Survivor has had many fantastic winners and some truly legendary players during its greatest seasons.

After learning about Survivor legends like Richard Hatch, those fans will likely want to know what he thinks of the people who are playing the game now. Fortunately for the show’s dedicated fans, during an exclusive TheThings interview, Richard explained which Survivor 48 players he respects and which he had no faith in.

Richard Hatch Has Been Extremely Impressed With Survivor 48’s Kamilla Karthigesu And Kyle Fraser

In April 2025, TheThings journalist Matthew Thomas exclusively interviewed Richard Hatch. During that conversation, Richard was asked what he thought of Kamilla Karthigesu and Kyle Fraser. In response, Richard instantly expressed his opinion that Kyle and Kamilla understand Survivor in a way that very few players ever have.

That’s a rarity. Right? These two have got it.

After quickly expressing how impressed he had been by Kamilla and Kyle, Richard went on to elaborate. Amazingly enough, Richard explained that he believed that Kamilla and Kyle pulled off something that no Survivor pair ever had before.

Throughout the history of Survivor, there have been many pairs who have left a memorable mark on fans. In fact, during Survivor: Borneo, Richard’s alliance with Rudy Boesch arguably became the show’s first pairing that proved how powerful duos can be.

Even though there have been Survivor pairs in the past, Richard exclusively told TheThings that Kyle and Kamilla are truly special. While talking to the outlet, Richard stated that he’d never seen a Survivor duo play so well together.

“These two understand the game and are so, so good at, not just playing it, but on playing it together in a way that I don’t know if we’ve seen done this this well.”

Richard had a lot more to say about why he was so impressed by Kyle and Kamilla.

While talking with TheThings about Kyle and Kamilla, Richard began by acknowledging that episodes of Survivor don’t show everything that happens.

While talking to TheThings, in April 2025, Richard Hatch explained that he continues to watch every episode of Survivor because of players like Kamilla Karthigesu and Kyle Fraser. “I’ve talked with so many people about what it is for me that’s enjoyable about this game and why I’ve never missed an episode. [It’s] when I find someone playing well.”

From there, Richard explained that he was so impressed with Kamilla and Kyle because of how loyal they were to each other without having to talk all the time.

“From what we’ve seen, they never broke. They did the minimum they needed to communicate in a way that each could have confidence in the other and never broke, never wavered, never in in those extra scenes where they’re not together and they’re each just talking to other people, each of them did brilliantly without betraying the other, without undermining what the two of them had planned to do. And I don’t know if we’ve ever seen that.”

Richard further explained to TheThings why he believes Kamilla and Kyle are more impressive than other Survivor duos.

“We just see so many times when one party involved in some kind of a pair just can’t hold it together and and screwed up this or doesn’t say that. And these two are just playing brilliantly so far… Typically, the more time passes when people haven’t spoken together, the more paranoia sets in, and one or the other does something stupid or undermines what they had planned or thinks they’re better.”

While talking about why he has loved watching Kyle and Kamilla on the show so much, Richard provided fascinating insight into what they’d pulled off.

In January 2025, Entertainment Weekly published an article containing bios for the cast of Survivor 48. According to that article, Kyle Fraser is an attorney from Roanoke, Virginia and Kamilla Karthigesu is a software engineer from Toronto, Ontario, Canada.

As a two-time former Survivor player and the first winner ever, Richard understands the game in a way that fans simply can’t. Richard used that perspective to explain that Survivor is designed to make what Kyle and Kamilla pulled off very difficult.

“That’s part of the game design that’s brilliant, I think, where the game gets you is it makes you get yourself because you’re so uncertain about whether you’re playing as well as you should and what you should do in this instance, and the two of them have maintained confidence in a way that is just exciting to me.”

In addition to explaining to TheThings that he respects what he’d already seen them do, Richard expressed what he hoped to see Kyle and Kamilla go on to do.

I’m hopeful they go further because I wanna see more of this amazing gameplay.

Richard Hatch Predicted Cedrek McFadden’s Downfall

When Richard Hatch was interviewed by TheThings in April 2025, the conversation took place before Cedrek McFadden was voted out during Survivor 48. During a Survivor 48 tribal council, Cedrek voted against Saiounia “Sai” Hughley twice and acknowledged that to her face. After that, Cedrek had the power to vote her out by himself, but he backtracked after an emotional appeal from her. While talking to TheThings in April 2025, Richard was asked about that turn of events.

While talking to TheThings, Richard was asked about how confusing it was that Cedrek thought Sai would trust him after he tried to vote her out twice to her face. In response, Richard explained that that moment made him realize that Cedrek was an overly emotional Survivor player.

“I took from it was something really, really specific that has played out since then, and that’s Cedrek’s instability, Cedrek’s overly emotional gameplay.”

While still talking to TheThings, Richard revealed why he didn’t expect Cedrek to do well in the game.

I don’t expect Cedrek will do very well because I think he has yet to learn how to manage his emotions in a way that will let him play better.

Most notably, Richard was underwhelmed by how Cedrek played the game. “I’m not impressed with him as a game player ” It should be noted that at no point did Richard say anything negative about what kind of person Cedrek is.
