GAINESVILLE, Fla. – Demarco Ja’mon Webb, 27, was arrested early this morning after allegedly shooting from his car after a pedestrian told him his car’s lights were off.

At about 2:56 a.m., a Gainesville Police Department officer was notified about a call from a complainant who wanted to remain anonymous and said that while crossing the street in the 200 block of SW 13th Street, they told the driver of a gray Hyundai Elantra that the car’s lights weren’t on; they said the driver opened the door of the Elantra and they heard a loud pop that sounded like gunfire. The complainant said the car was last seen heading toward UF Health Shands.

The officer was driving northbound on SW 34th Street toward Archer Road, saw a gray Hyundai driving without headlights, and conducted a felony traffic stop. The officer reported that Webb was the driver and sole occupant of the Hyundai.

Webb reportedly gave the officer consent to search the vehicle, and the search reportedly produced a 9mm bullet on the driver’s side floorboard, a spent 9mm shell under the driver’s seat, an unloaded 9mm handgun in the center console, a loaded 24-round magazine, and a baggie containing about 4.6 grams of marijuana.

Post Miranda, Webb reportedly said he had discharged his gun while seated in his car in the 200 block of SW 13th Street.

Because the complainant did not want to be considered a victim, Webb was charged with discharging a firearm from within a vehicle within 1,000 feet of a person and possession of less than 20 grams of marijuana. He has no criminal history. Judge Susan Miller-Jones set bail at $102,000.

Articles about arrests are based on reports from law enforcement agencies. The charges listed are taken from the arrest report and/or court records and are only accusations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
