The car smashed into a pizza parlour terrace and another car after hitting a lamppost at around 9:30pm on Thursday.

A 25-year-old man from Seville walking along the road died, along with a female passenger in the car she was driving.

Three men were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The woman was arrested at the scene, and local sources confirmed she tested positive for alcohol.

She was also allegedly driving without a licence.

Witnesses described how the pedestrian killed by the car was tossed into the air.

One woman told local press: “I never thought I was going to see anything like this happen just outside my house.

“I saw how the car sped towards the young man that was killed and threw him through the air, literally.”

Another woman, who was sitting on the restaurant terrace, said: “I felt almost an earthquake, we were very scared.

“I saw it in close-up. In fact, I was looking at the street and I saw how the car approached and ran over the boy, who literally flew away.

“You never believe you are going to witness something like this until you see it at the door of your house.”

In a lengthy statement the town council said: “Fuengirola Town Council regrets the death of two people that occurred last night on the Paseo Marítimo, around the Carvajal Beach area, as a result of a traffic accident.

“It also hopes for the swift recovery of three seriously injured individuals and seven others affected to varying degrees.

“The incident occurred around 10pm when a vehicle, which was traveling too fast on the road towards Marbella left the road, crashed into a corner column of a building, and continued along the pavement for a few feet, knocking down a pedestrian aged around 25 from the province of Seville, who died on the spot.

“It also hit ten other people, who were injured to varying degrees. The passenger in the car that caused the accident died as a result of the impact.

“The vehicle was driven by a 45-year-old Iranian woman, who was identified by the local police upon their arrival.

“She tested positive for alcohol and was not in possession of any driving license.

“As a consequence of all this, she was arrested by the officers accused of committing two counts of manslaughter due to gross negligence, causing serious injury due to gross negligence, and a traffic offence for driving under the influence of alcohol.”
