TAMPA — Food poisoning has struck another Yankee.
Austin Wells sat out of the game on Friday against the Rays due to what he believed to be a case of food poisoning, similar to what Cody Bellinger experienced last week in Detroit that also led to him missing a game.
Wells clarified that he did not eat any bad wings like Bellinger did, nor was it a burrito from his Instagram account, where he rates them in different visiting clubhouses.
“I went to sleep feeling great,” Wells said. “So no idea what happened. Someone poisoned me in my sleep.”

The catcher was uncertain about the cause of his illness but mentioned that he was unable to eat anything on Friday. Consequently, he was absent from the Yankees’ lineup for the second consecutive game, with J.C. Escarra filling in once again after Wells had a scheduled day off on Thursday.
