DENVER (KDVR) A case involving what police called a “clandestine grave” discovered in an Colorado residence in April 2023 has come to an end after both suspects pleaded guilty under plea agreements.
Haskel Crawford, 40, pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree murder in March, alongside a sentence enhancement charge of violent crime causing death. The district attorney’s office dismissed charges of first-degree murder and tampering with a deceased body.
On Thursday, a judge sentenced Crawford to serve 30 years in the Department of Corrections and gave him just over two years of pre-sentence confinement credit for time already served.
The Aurora Police Department said it began investigating after receiving a tip that a missing man had been killed, then buried in the crawl space and covered with concrete inside a condo in the 14600 block of East 2nd Avenue. Police obtained a search warrant and found a concealed grave.
Inside that grave was Karl Beaman Jr., 36, who was a reported accomplice of Crawford. The pair was allegedly trying to steal a catalytic converter in Littleton during the spring of 2022 when a resident confronted them. The incident turned into a physical altercation, and Crawford allegedly shot at the resident. He didn’t hit the resident, but police obtained Crawford’s DNA from the bullet casing and arrested him in the matter.
Beaman had been missing for at least 10 months before the grave was located.
Another defendant in the case, Casie Bock, pleaded guilty to a charge of accessory to a crime in September 2023, and the district attorney’s office dismissed charges of witness/victim intimidation and tampering with a deceased human body. She was sentenced to serve four years in a deferred sentence.
