Barcelona were beaten 3-1 by Borussia Dortmund in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final but still progressed to the last four following a 5-3 aggregate victory across both matches.

Barcelona boasted a four-goal advantage from the first leg and were grateful for such a sizeable cushion during a nervy first half at Signal Iduna Park. Dortmund reduced the deficit just 11 minutes into the clash through Serhou Guirassy’s penalty and spurned promising opportunities to slash La Blaugrana’s lead further before the break.

Guirassy doubled his tally for the evening just four minutes after the restart and would go on to claim his hat-trick following an error from Ronald Araujo, but Ramy Bensebaini’s own goal in between the Guinea international’s second-half strikes kept distance between Dortmund and Barcelona.

Dortmund pushed to add to their lead on the night but were unable to complete the turnaround as Barcelona booked their place in the semi-finals, where they will meet either Inter or Bayern Munich.
