SAN FRANCISCO — Fully cooked pork carnitas sold at Aldi grocery stores across the United States are being recalled due to contamination of “foreign material, specifically pieces of metal,” according to the US Food Safety and Inspection Service. 

The recalled item is sold in a 16-oz sleeve and is called “Pork Carnitas SEASONED & SEARED PORK WITH JUICES SLOW COOKED WITH CITRUS, READY TO SHRED.” 

The products, made by Cargill Meat Solutions, were produced at the beginning of April, have an “use by” date of June 30, 2025 or July 1, 2025, and have the USDA mark of inspection number “Est. 46049” on the packaging. 

No injuries have been reported and the recall was issued after the a routine check noticed “equipment damage that may have contaminated the carnitas products with pieces of metal,” according to FSIS. 

The product is no longer available in-store, but health officials encourage anyone with the item in their fridge or freezer to throw them away or return it to Aldi.
