Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck’s whirlwind second-chance romance ended in 2024. While they were together, though, the couple made fans believe in love when they reunited after two decades apart. Affleck spoke glowingly about Lopez in interviews. He even admired her skill at social media, something he disliked.

Affleck is a major celebrity and makes frequent appearances in paparazzi pictures, but he tries to keep his life as private as possible. He doesn’t have an Instagram account even though his wife was proficient at the app.

“My wife’s a genius at that,” he told The Hollywood Reporter. “I don’t know if there’s anybody who understands Instagram better than her.”

He said he was too guarded to put his life out there like that. 

“In fact, she gave me a talk this morning before this interview,” he said. “She thinks that because of experiences that I’ve had, I’ve become very guarded. And she’s right.”

Affleck has faced backlash often throughout his career, and he believes that social media can open a person to it.

“I view these things as landmines, where if you say one wrong thing, your career might be over,” he said. “I had a really painful experience where I did an interview where I was really vulnerable, and the entire pickup was something that was not only not right, it was actually the opposite of what I meant.”

Affleck disliked social media so much that he initially didn’t want to appear on Lopez’s accounts. He said he later realized this wasn’t fair to her, though. 

“Getting back together, I said, ‘Listen, one of the things I don’t want is a relationship on social media,’” he said, per the Daily Mail. “Then I sort of realized it’s not a fair thing to ask.”

Unlike him, she liked putting her life out there. He didn’t want her to stop for him.

“It’s sort of like, you’re gonna marry a boat captain and you go, ‘Well, I don’t like the water.’ We’re just two people with different kinds of approaches trying to learn to compromise.”

The couple divorced in 2025

In 2024, Lopez and Affleck separated after two years of marriage. They finalized their divorce in 2025. Though it hasn’t been easy, they are reportedly on great terms now.

“Getting things all squared away has done wonders for the state of their relationship,” a source told InTouch Weekly. “They’re both saying they are impressed in the end by how sensible and fair it all came out and that’s left them both feeling about as happy as you could get after a divorce.” 

They want to move forward as friends for the sake of their children.

“It’s a really hopeful sign that they managed to get through this without hating each other, because they would like to preserve their friendship,” the source said. “It’s also imperative to her that the kids continue to have a friendship as well. They’re both on the same page which is wonderful.”
