Man dies after being pulled from water at Hanna Park, police say

The initial investigation found the victim, a man in his late teens, was swimming when a possible rip current pulled him deeper into the water.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — A man is dead after an apparent drowning due to a possible rip current at Hanna Park on Sunday, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office.

Police said around 5 p.m., officers responded to what they said was a possible drowning at 500 Wonderwood Drive.

Officers working at the park rescued the victim, a man in his late teens, from the water and he was taken to the hospital by the Jacksonville Fire and Rescue Department, where he was pronounced dead.

The initial investigation found the victim was swimming when a possible rip current pulled him deeper into the water.

Police said no foul play is suspected in the incident, and the Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the victim’s official cause of death.
