PIATT COUNTY, Ill. (WCIA) — Over the weekend, firefighters with the Mid-Piatt Fire Protection District were training for emergencies, and learning how quickly they could assemble their equipment.

On Saturday night, crews did a night-time hose advancement and water supply drill. Because a large part of the area is not covered by fire hydrants, crews have to set up a “Porta-Tank.”

Water has to be added to the tank, which then serves as a temporary source of water. Porta-Tanks can also be moved and reused as needed, making them useful for fires in different locations.

During the simulation, the firefighters were able to stretch a 200ft pre-connected hose line throughout the fire house, and begin to attack the fire within two minutes. Within five minutes of arriving to the scene, the firefighters were able to begin pumping water from the engine and directing it through the hose for fire suppression.
