  • Afrobeat singer Peter Okoye, known as Mr P, has sparked controversy by blaming fans’ behavior for the breakup of the Psquare music group.
  • Peter’s speech at AY Comedian show revealed that constant comparisons between him and his twin brother, Paul, or Rudeboy, exacerbated tension and ego issues.

Afrobeats star Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, has sparked online buzz after claiming that fans were a major reason behind the famous Psquare music group’s breakup.

Speaking during his appearance at AY Comedian’s recent event, Peter said that the frequent comparisons and favoritism shown by fans toward him and his twin brother, Paul (aka Rudeboy), created unnecessary tension. According to him, the public’s tendency to pit them against each other eventually led to ego clashes and the group’s eventual split.

He said,
“Fans are the reasons Psquare no dey together today. Two brothers dey do one thing, ona dey talk say one better pass one, e con enter one head, he begin misbehave. If ona like make ona dey go house, I no send una.”

Psquare, formed in 1997 by Peter and Paul Okoye, rose to fame with hit tracks like “Bizzy Body,” “E No Easy,” and “Personally.” The duo was also celebrated for their electrifying dance moves and stage presence.

Their breakup, which followed family-related disagreements, has remained a major talking point in Nigerian pop culture. Most recently, Peter made headlines after reportedly testifying against their elder brother, Jude Okoye, in a case involving an alleged ₦1.38 billion fraud.

@it_jbe commented: “There’s no point trying to prove anything—no one ever said Peter can’t sing. But when it comes to vocal strength and delivery, Paul clearly stands out. As solo artists, it’s easy to tell that Paul is the stronger singer.”
