HILTON HEAD ISLAND, S.C. () — The Harriet Tubman Quilt from the Gullah Museum of Georgetown and a new community quilt exhibition will be held on Saturday.
Quilts will be draped across trees like clothesline throughout the Historic Mitchelville Freedom Park Saturday, April 26 from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
Organizers invite local quilters and community members to contribute their own quilts to be hung up. Quilt stories and the tradition of coded messages will be shared, plus attendees can design their own freedom quilt square.

“Quilts have long been more than just blankets-they are storytellers, guides and symbols of resistance,” an organizer said.
All ages are welcome to attend and see the Gullah Geechee heritage and African American freedom narrative.
It is a free event, but donations are welcome.
