Larry David blasted by Jews for Trump Hitler comparison

Larry David is being blasted by fellow Jews as an out-of-touch liberal elite after he compared president Donald Trump to Hitler.

The comedian, 77, wrote a satirical New York Times op-ed titled ‘My Dinner with Adolf’ that mocked Bill Maher’s recap of his dinner with the president – and sparked backlash from prominent Jewish Trump supporters.

Journalist Batya Ungar-Sargon slammed David’s essay during an appearance on CNN, accusing the Curb Your Enthusiasm creator of offending the working class and millions of Jews who voted for Trump.

‘To call Trump Hitler is to call over 80million Americans – 35 percent of Jewish Americans, 56 percent of Hispanic men and the majority of Americans who make under $100,000 a year – Nazis, because those are the people who gave Donald Trump his victory,’ she said.

Ungar-Sargon then offered advice for ‘any Democrats thinking about winning back the working class.’

‘You should have a visceral disgust for someone like Larry David, who is worth $400million, sitting there and sneering and smearing at the hardest-working Americans for refusing to co-sign their own disinheritance,’ Ungar-Sargon said.

‘That’s effectively what they are doing when these millionaires come out here and call Trump Hitler – they are calling working-class Americans Nazis because they chose the person they thought would give their children back the future they were promised by this country, and it just has to stop.’

Maher had previously echoed Ungar-Sargon’s sentiment, saying David’s op-ed was ‘kind of insulting to six million dead Jews,’ calling Hitler ‘the GOAT of evil.’

Other prominent Jews have taken to social media to criticize David’s essay, with many noting the comedian has not publicly spoken about the October 7 terrorist attacks by Hamas.

‘Larry David hasn’t once said anything about the hostages,’ said Zionist activist Eve Barlow.

‘Larry David didn’t say a word in support of Jews or Israel – but he did falsely compare Trump to Hitler in the NY Times,’ wrote Joel Petlin on X.

David’s piece satirized a monologue Maher delivered following the dinner, in which he praised the president’s warmth and humanity.

While he admitted that he disagrees with Trump politically he conceded that he had an enjoyable evening and praised the president’s personal skills.

Maher, 69, also came away from the dinner with a signed printout of all the insults Trump has hurled at him over the years, prompting him to compliment his ‘good humor.’

While reflecting on the evening, Maher spoke fondly of Trump, despite their extensive history of clashes.

David’s essay mocks the encounter as the comedian shares a first-person account of a Hitler critic accepting a dinner invite from the Führer.

‘I had been a vocal critic of his on the radio from the beginning, pretty much predicting everything he was going to do on the road to dictatorship,’ David said.

‘But eventually I concluded that hate gets us nowhere. I knew I couldn’t change his views, but we need to talk to the other side – even if it has invaded and annexed other countries and committed unspeakable crimes against humanity.’

Maher finally responded to David in an interview with Piers Morgan and he said David was insulting to Holocaust victims.

‘I just think it’s kind of insulting to six million dead Jews, you know, like that should kind of be in its own place in history. And I know people can say, well, we’re just comparing it in this way. Well, it’s an argument you kind of lost just to start it,’ Maher said.

Maher added that while ‘nobody has been harder’ on Trump than he has, references to Hitler need to remain separate because he ‘is the GOAT of evil.’

‘So, you know, did I think that was appropriate? No, but people have the right to disagree.’
