Luis Diaz has opened up on his dream to leave a lasting legacy at Liverpool ahead of a summer transfer window which will bring questions over his future at Anfield.

While Liverpool’s focus has been on the immediate contract issues posed by Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Trent Alexander-Arnold, they will soon be forced into a decision on Diaz, whose deal has just two years left to run.

There has been significant speculation over a potential transfer to Barcelona, while Saudi Arabia is also mentioned as a possible destination for Diaz.

If Diaz is considering a departure this summer, he did not drop any such hints in a recent interview with TNT Sports, in which he made no secret of his desire to be remembered in Liverpool history by the time he eventually leaves Anfield.

“I’m very happy and very grateful,” he began. “We’re fighting for the Premier League title which we’ve dreamed of for so long. Personally, it’s something I always wanted that is close to being achieved.

“It’s an honour [to hear fans sing]. It’s an honour that the fans of Liverpool, a great team from England, sing my name, support me… that’s what I have always worked for. What I want for my career is that they always remember me, to leave a mark on Liverpool.

“We will continue working in this way to make them feel happy to continue singing and cheering for the team, which is the most important thing.

“So many memories come back to me because, since I was a child, I always dreamed of winning a title with Liverpool, but more so the Premier League, and that is now close. I’m very happy. Very happy.”

Diaz has played an integral role in Liverpool’s push for the Premier League title, racking up 11 goals and seven assists to leave the Reds just three points away from sealing the trophy in Arne Slot’s first season at the helm.

As for the future, Diaz is one of several Liverpool forwards whose next moves are unclear. Darwin Nunez is expected to leave, while both Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota have been linked with exits. There has even been speculation of interest in Cody Gakpo, who has often interchanged with Diaz across the left wing and central striker roles.
