Netflix debuts new way to watch

HOLLYWOOD, Ca. () — Many people watch television with subtitles, whether they are hearing impaired or not. One study says nearly 40% of the people they polled prefer to watch with subtitles for 2 reasons: to enhance general comprehension of the content or to help understand accents.

In the past, subtitles made note of every sound on the screen: dialog, sound effects and audio cues (think “door creaking” or “atmospheric music”). But now Netflix has rolled out a “dialog only” option. The streaming service is offering the option in every language, not just English.

Netflix is making this change because they monitor their viewers habits. The new option is available now with Netflix’s recent fifth and final season of the drama, “You,” which premiered all episodes Thursday. The service will be available on all Netflix originals from now on.

All existing options for subtitles will remain.
