The secret talks between Trent Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool owner John W Henry: Lip reader lifts the lid on what was said as newly-crowned champions make final push to keep him away from Real Madrid's grasp

A lip reader has revealed what was said between Liverpool owner John W Henry and Trent Alexander-Arnold after they were seen speaking amid their title celebrations.

Arne Slot’s Reds thrashed Tottenham 5-1 on Sunday to ensure they secured a historic 20th league title – with players and staff soaking up the occasion on the pitch.

Liverpool fans paid particular attention to Alexander-Arnold’s celebrations, given the growing uncertainty over his future at the club and suggestions that he could leave in the summer window to join Spanish giants Real Madrid.

Investigative and forensic lipreader Nicola Hickling, who spoke to OBLG, claimed that Henry opened the conversation by saying: ‘You’ve been quiet. How did you get on?’

She noted that the England international nodded in response before uttering: ‘Being sensible’.

Henry then raised up his hand and seemingly said: ‘I want you to do the right thing’

In a blunt response, Alexander-Arnold said: ‘Yeah, yeah’.

In an act of reassurance, Henry replied: ‘Best way and don’t panic.’

The defender then said: ‘Should I decide?’

Hickling noted that Henry nodded slowly before saying: ‘Absolutely’. He then turned to the fans and said: ‘Let them know.’

Alexander-Arnold then, seemingly, nodded in agreement with the 75-year-old.

The defender made his first start for Liverpool since their defeat by PSG in March, where he suffered an ankle injury that sidelined him for several weeks.

Once the final whistle blew, the Liverpool players and coaching staff came together on the pitch to celebrate their latest league triumph.

Alexander-Arnold stood in front of the Kop end, soaking in the celebrations with a beaming smile, as the jubilant fans cheered him and his teammates on.

His actions lead many hopeful Liverpool fans to claim that Alexander-Arnold may in fact be staying at the club, as he looked emotional celebrating the success.

Speaking last week, Reds captain Virgil van Dijk insisted he and his team-mates are in the dark over Alexander-Arnold’s future.

The Dutchman said: ‘I think he’s under a lot of pressure already so there’s no point for me to put him on the spot.

‘I think we forget that we are dealing with a human being. Sometimes he goes through so many moments in the last couple of months and everyone will have an opinion on the way he’s obviously been.

‘For us as players, we want to win games and he’s been important throughout the whole season. He’s been important for all the years that we have been together.

‘There’s still games to go and we need to have the best Trent Alexander-Arnold and whatever happens in the future, that’s life and football and we’ll see.

The 26-year-old is out of contract on June 30 and has been heavily linked with a free transfer to the Bernabeu. Despite mounting speculation, Alexander-Arnold has so far refused to confirm his plans.

Speaking after the trophy celebrations, wearing a backwards ‘Champions 24-25’ shirt and a scarf tied around his head, Cody Gakpo reflected on the defender’s future.

‘Now with Mo [Salah] and Virgil [Van Dijk] staying, and hopefully Trent as well, they can keep building,’ said the Dutchman.

It was a seemingly casual remark, but one that Liverpool fans will cling to as a sign that talks are still ongoing behind the scenes and that Alexander-Arnold could yet commit to a new deal.

Van Dijk and Salah had also entered the final six months of their contracts at the start of 2025, creating uncertainty around their futures. However, both have since put pen to paper on new long-term deals at Anfield, boosting hopes that Alexander-Arnold might follow suit.
