The incident spurred St. Johns County deputies to locate guns, multiple pounds of drugs and thousands in cash at the suspect’s home.

ST. JOHNS COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of breaking into a St. Johns County home using a large branch is facing multiple charges after investigators uncovered pounds of drugs, multiple firearms and thousands in cash at his residence, the sheriff’s office said Monday.

On April 15, St. Johns County deputies responded to a burglary in progress on Swallowtail Lane and discovered a naked man had used a large wooden branch to shatter glass on a back door, officials said.

The residents of the home hid in another bedroom and called 911.

Alejandro Barzaga, 44, was taken into custody by investigators, who later learned he lived nearby.

Deputies went to Barzaga’s home, where they found clothing and a purse outside and the garage door open, officials said.

Upon entering the home, deputies discovered evidence of a “large marijuana grow.” St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office narcotics detectives responded to the home to execute a search warrant.

Officials said detectives found three guns, $85,000 in United States currency, 22 pounds of psilocybin mushrooms, 12 marijuana plants, three pounds of marijuana, more than five pounds of marijuana edibles and 17 grams of ketamine at the home. They also found drug paraphernalia consistent with cultivation and sales.

Barzaga faces charges of armed burglary of an occupied dwelling and criminal mischief. Investigators said additional charges are still pending.
