A lot of people expected Colorado Buffaloes quarterback Shedeur Sanders to be selected in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft, especially the Sanders family. They were so sure that was going to happen that they threw a big party with a few celebrities on draft night and waited for his name to be called. But it wasn’t.
Then, on Day 2 of the draft, his name wasn’t called either. The Cleveland Browns eventually took Sanders in the fifth round with the 144th pick.
There are a few different theories about why he didn’t go higher in the draft. Some analysts believe teams didn’t want to deal with the distraction his high-profile father, Deion Sanders, would bring. Others think it may have something to do with him going into the draft without a traditional sports agent advocating for him as he chose to represent himself.
But Sanders isn’t just making headlines for falling in the draft. He’s also been linked to one star who was seen by his side when many people thought he was going to be drafted, and she was with him after he was actually drafted. That’s Jamaican recording artist Shenseea, and now everyone is trying to figure out if they are dating.
Sanders and Shenseea spark dating rumors during draft and at nightclub afterparty
Once Sanders was finally drafted, Shenseea as well as rappers Kodak Black, Yung Miami, and TrapBoyFreddy accompanied him to his post-draft party at the Dallas nightclub Hyde & Seek.
But as the chatter about Sanders and Shenseea being an item intensified on social media, pop culture news correspondent Loren LoRosa got the tea about what was really going on with them over draft weekend.
LoRosa explained onThe Breakfast Club that a source close to Shenseea told her they are not dating. The singer was one of several women invited to the party. And her role was if Sanders had been drafted in the first round, she would be the one to hand him the hat bearing the logo of his new team.
LoRosa also shared that Sanders and Shenseea had just met on draft day. They didn’t even know each other before then.
Who Sanders has dated and was previously linked to
Before the internet started trying to figure out if Sanders was dating Shenseea, the football player was in a relationship with The Last of Us and Euphoria actor Storm Reid. Sanders was photographed with her at the premiere of her film Missing, and she was seen at some of his college games supporting him.
On an episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live, Reid talked about their connection: “Whether I’m there or not, I support [his team]. I’ll definitely be in the student section, or wherever I am, cheering on the Buffaloes with their jersey and everything.”
When they called it quits, Sanders was linked to Instagram model Jasmine Rae for several months. While the two were seen together on multiple occasions, they never commented on their relationship.
Did Shenseea date Drake?
As for Shenseea’s past love life, she’s been romantically linked to rapper Drake. There was even a rumor several years back that she was expecting a baby with the “One Dance” artist. Of course that turned out to be false and Shenseea insisted to radio host Angela Yee that she and Drake “never even kissed, much less, for him to get [her] pregnant.”
Shenseea was reportedly in a relationship with Tarik “Rvssian” Johnston for a bit in 2019. And in 2022, she was spotted holding hands with London On Da Track as they watched the Los Angeles Rams defeat the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI.
When asked about that sighting, Shenseea told Yee: “London is a cool dude to me” and at the time they had “been working together making music.”
