Richard Gere's wife reveals plans to return to the US months after relocating to Spain

Richard Gere and his wife, Alejandra Silva, are already thinking about returning to the US after packing up and moving to Spain.

Since leaving Connecticut, the actor known for his role in “Pretty Woman,” aged 75, has been giving his followers glimpses of his new life overseas. He expressed feeling happier than ever after relocating in November.

But just months after their trans-Atlantic relocation, Silva revealed that the pair is already planning on returning to the US.

“For a few years and then come back [to America]. But we’re always coming back,” shared Silva, responding to queries about the permanency of their stay in Madrid.

Regarding their plans, she mentioned, “We’ll come back here in the summer because we have the kids at camp. We just have to balance our lives there and here. I’m with my family… You know, I missed them a lot. But I miss the US. So we come back and forth.”

Silva’s sentiment was echoed by Gere’s son Homer, who told the outlet that he’s keen for his dad to return to the US.

“I’ve been told they’re going to move back within the next few years, so hopefully that’s the case because I miss them here,” said Homer, whom Gere shares with his ex-wife Carey Lowell.

“It’s the same people. Just a different place. It doesn’t change the world. Spain’s beautiful,” the 25-year-old said, denying that the family “escaped because of politics.”

After selling their sprawling $10.75 million mansion, Gere and Silva settled down in Madrid with their sons Alexander, 6, and James, 4, as well as Silva’s son Albert, 11.

Gere made clear his plans to move away from the US months before the election, telling Vanity Fair Spain in April 2024 that he and his wife were relocating to her home country so that she could be closer to her family.

Still, being 3,513 miles away hasn’t stopped Gere from calling out President Trump — even while accepting his International Goya Award in February.

“We’re in a very dark place in America, where we have a bully, a thug, who’s the president of the United States. But it’s not just in the U.S., it’s everywhere,” Gere said while accepting an award from fellow Hollywood star Antonio Banderas.

“We’re all part of a universe of overlapping pain and sadness and joy. … I see this world that we’re in now forgetting that,” he said. “This very foolish tribalism is starting to take us over, where we think that we’re all separate from each other.”

“And we have unfortunately elected officials that don’t inspire us in the way that we want to be inspired. I’m coming from a place now … we’re in a very dark place in America where we have a bully and a thug who is the president of the United States. But it’s not just in the U.S., it’s everywhere.”
