Royal weddings are watched by millions of people around the world, who tune in for a few different reasons. Some want to see all the celebrity guests, others want to watch what resembles a real-life fairy tale, and many fans tune in to see what the bride is wearing.

When we think of some spectacular royal wedding dresses, Princess Diana’s gown may come to mind. Hers was an ivory silk taffeta ensemble designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel. It featured puffed ruffle sleeves, a full skirt, 10,000 pearls, antique lace, and a 25-foot-long train. Diana’s train was record-breaking as it was the longest in royal family history at that time. Queen Elizabeth II, Princess Margaret, and Princess Anne all had much shorter trains.

We’ve seen quite a few royal weddings since, with some more gorgeous dresses from Meghan Markle’s to the Princess of Wales’ (formerly Kate Middleton) to Princess Eugenie’s to Princess Beatrice’s to Zara Tindall’s. But there’s one people Google more than any other.

Which royal wedding dress is the most searched?

The diamond experts at Steven Stone calculated data from Ubersuggest, which revealed that Kate’s dress is Googled more than any royal wedding gown.

Maxwell Stone shared with Showbiz Cheat Sheet: “Kate Middleton is one of the most beloved members of the British royal family. Given her immense popularity, it’s no surprise that her wedding dress is the most searched globally, with fans and fashion enthusiasts continuing to be captivated by her iconic bridal look.

“Her wedding to Prince William in 2011 attracted an estimated 2 billion viewers worldwide, making it one of the most-watched events in television history. Worth $520,000, it’s usually Kate’s 12-carat Ceylon sapphire engagement ring that has people talking, but her wedding dress gains 33,000 searches per month globally.”

Coming behind Kate, in the second spot for most-Googled dress is her sister-in-law. Stone noted that “Meghan Markle’s [dress] garners 27,100 average monthly searches, securing her spot in second place. (The duchess has a significantly higher average search volume in the U.S., 12,100, compared to the U.K. with 3,600).

“The beloved ‘People’s Princess,’ Princess Diana, who is also Kate and Meghan’s mother-in-law, ranks third with an impressive 18,100 average monthly searches. A significant portion of this search volume comes from the United States, highlighting Diana’s enduring global influence and the lasting impact of her legacy.”

Which dresses took the 4th and 5th spots

Rounding out the top five of most-searched royal wedding dresses are Princess Beatrice’s and Queen Elizabeth II’s.

Beatrice’s dress was a Sir Norman Hartnell design. The gown actually belonged to the late queen, who loaned it to her granddaughter when she married Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi in 2020.

Stone said: “The most surprising finding is that Princess Beatrice’s wedding dress receives 3,600 monthly searches globally, a figure that matches the search volume for Queen Elizabeth II, one of the most iconic figures in royal history. This unexpected level of interest underscores the lasting appeal of both Beatrice’s modern bridal style and the enduring legacy of the late Queen, for whom the dress was originally designed.”
