Prime Video’s new action-packed series Countdown has finally been given a release date, and it’s set to hit our screens imminently.

The series stars Jensen Ackles, known for his role in The Boys, as the lead character Mark Meachum, an LAPD detective who is brought on board to investigate the murder of a Department of Homeland Security officer.

Ackles shares the screen with Grey’s Anatomy star Eric Dane, who plays Nathan Blythe. They are joined by a stellar cast including Jessica Camacho, Violett Beane, Elliot Knight, and Uli Latukefu.

Countdown, a creation of Derek Haas, comprises 13 gripping episodes.

The first three episodes will be available on Prime Video from 25th June, with the rest being released weekly until the finale on 3rd September, reports Mirror US.

The official synopsis for Countdown reveals: “When an officer with the Department of Homeland Security is murdered in broad daylight, LAPD detective Mark Meachum (Ackles), is recruited to a secret task force, alongside undercover agents from all branches of law enforcement, to investigate.

“But the hunt for the killer soon uncovers a plot far more sinister than anyone could have imagined, kicking off a race against time to save a city of millions.”

Filming for Countdown began in Los Angeles towards the end of 2024, wrapping up in March 2025. First-look photos reveal the cast in character.

Ackles is all set to captivate audiences with not just one, but multiple projects on the horizon. Among them is a riveting return as Soldier Boy in Vought Rising, the eagerly anticipated prequel series to the hit show The Boys.

The upcoming show delves deep into the history of notorious characters Soldier Boy and Stormfront, portrayed by Aya Cash, alongside the sinister beginnings of the corporation Vought International.

Regarding the gripping prequel, producers Eric Kripke and Paul Grellong have unleashed an enticing teaser: “It’s a twisted murder mystery about the origins of Vought in the 1950s, the early exploits of Soldier Boy and the diabolical manoeuvres of a Supe known to fans as Stormfront, who was then going by the name Clara Vought.

“We cannot wait to blow your minds and trouble your souls with this salacious, grisly saga drenched in blood and Compound V.”

While the release date remains under wraps, anticipation for the series is at an all-time high.

Countdown will premiere on 25 June on Prime Video. Episodes will then be released on a weekly basis.
