A Maine man has been arrested for making “threats of violence” toward a complete stranger over Xbox’s online gaming network, sending him typo-filled messages — with statements like, “I know we’re u live” and “u next person in line” — while also claiming he would “burn house to ground” and “kil” the victim’s family, cops say.
James Maynard, 32, of Pittsfield, was arrested on April 25 and charged with written or electronic threats to kill following an investigation by the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office that had been going for more than two years.
Detectives began investigating a series of threats reported by a Palm Coast resident in November 2022 and eventually determined that Maynard was allegedly behind them. The victim was a juvenile at the time and Maynard was using anonymous Xbox account names to send menacing messages to the minor, cops say.
According to his charging affidavit, Maynard was “threatening to kill the victim, burn their house down, and make their parents disappear.” The victim told investigators they received similar threats in July 2022.
“The victim stated they had never met the suspect but had interacted with them through Xbox and Snapchat,” the sheriff’s office said in a press release Tuesday.
According to the affidavit, the victim reported hearing a speech impediment that Maynard had and said he “mentioned living with his mother.” It’s unclear whether the two of them met playing video games or through any other means. The victim said he communicated with Maynard on Snapchat, as well.

“I know we’re u live next time u spread room your mom dad will be misser by the moring,” Maynard allegedly wrote in one of the typo-filled threats. ”
“Your falmy be misser if speard room agan burn house to ground,” another message said, according to police.
“U better shut trap u next person in line falmy that I kil,” Maynard allegedly added.
Authorities identified Maynard through investigative means in January 2025, with his arrest warrant being obtained on April 25. Maynard was arrested on the outstanding fugitive warrant and transported to the Kennebec County Correctional Facility in Augusta, Maine. He was scheduled to be extradited to Flagler County.
