An hours-long manhunt in a South Carolina island community ended on a boat late Thursday afternoon when police captured the suspect accused of ramming his vehicle into a group of people — two of them children — earlier in the day.

Police used drones, helicopters and door to door searches to find the man they identified as Justin Collin Adams, wanted for the hit-and-run outside Sunrise Presbyterian Church just before 1 p.m., WCIV reported. Police said the man pulled into the parking area and hit a parent and two children.

One of the children was treated at the scene and released to another parent, while the other child and the adult were taken to a hospital. That child was later released, and the adult was expected to be released Thursday night.

Police did not say if the crash was intentional. Adams was believed to be armed with a knife, and was last fleeing on foot. Authorities issued a shelter-in-place caution while federal and state agencies joined the search and police said Adams should be considered armed and dangerous.

Further information has yet to be released.
