CENTRAL ILLINOIS, Ill. (WCIA) — Just southeast of Decatur there is an anomaly where Macon, Shelby, and Moultrie counties meet.

It’s known as Dalton City, but to some, it goes by a different name: Racehorse Flats. About 50 years ago it got its nickname because farmers in this area wanted to be the first in the field and the first done planting.

Stu Ellis sat down with Dale Plumer, the general manager of Heritage Green in Dalton City to talk about how the planting season is going.

“Well, it looks like it’s about zero to 100% on corn. That’s how variable it is, and there’s probably quite a few guys that have half their beans in, but it’s it’s definitely it’s late,” Plumer said.

Racehorse Flats was named by the late Warren Myers, a highly respected Extension agent for Macon County.
