On Thursday, Virginia officials suspended a woman’s nursing license as she faces criminal charges for abusing at multiple babies at a hospital.

The Virginia Board of Nursing issued the temporary suspension against Erin Strotman, 26, pending a July 23 hearing. WTVU reported that Strotman worked at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital NICU when several babies suffered bone fractures and other suspicious injuries before her arrest in January.

The Washington Post reported that authorities filed additional charges against Strotman in March, though the indictments were not unsealed until late April. The indictments laid out a timeline that accused Strotman of abusing babies for two years.

Strotman had been a nurse at Henrico Doctors’ Hospital since 2019. According to WWBT, the hospital halted all neonatal intensive care unit admissions in December after three premature babies suffered bone fractures. Days later, officials identified a total of seven babies who were injured at the hospital.

Strotman was placed on administrative leave in September 2023. She was allowed to return to work a year later, in late 2024, though she was fired in January 2025 — the same day of her arrest

November 10 video footage reportedly showed Strotman force a 5-month-old boy’s feet to his head as he cried out. Medical staff later determined the baby suffered a fractured right femur and tibia and multiple fractured ribs, according to The Washington Post.

Strotman, who is charged with malicious wounding and felony child neglect, remains free on bond as she awaits a May court hearing. The Washington Post reported that Henrico Doctors’ Hospital reopened its NICU unit in February, sparking backlash.
