FOOTAGE shows the moment armed cops stormed a house and arrested one of five men suspected of involvement in a terror plot.
Armed counter terrorism officers in full gear were filmed as they dramatically swooped on a house in Rochdale, Manchester, later leading out a shirtless man.
Photos have also emerged from Swindon, showing Met Police officers arresting a suspected Iranian terrorist outside a Costa in the town centre.
Plain-clothed cops could be seen searching the man as he lay on his back, with shocked locals watching on from a distance.
Cops said they arrested a 40-year-old from Rochdale yesterday, along with two 29-year-olds from Swindon and Stockport.
A 46-year-old from West London and a fifth man from the Manchester area were also detained in the crackdown.
All five are still in custody. Four are Iranian nationals while the fifth’s nationality hasn’t been revealed.
They were all arrested on suspicion of preparation of a terrorist act.
The plot was said to involve a single site, with counter terrorism cops confirming they had been in contact with the premises.
Police refused to reveal its location as they continue to investigate the potential risk to lives.
Three more Iranian men were arrested in London on the same day as part of a separate operation.
They were arrested under an Act which allows cops to detain those suspected of being “involved in foreign power threat activity”.
This totals eight arrests across the two investigations.
The scale of the pre-planned raids gives an indication of the level of threat the plot could have caused, The Sun understands.
Commander Dominic Murphy, Head of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command, said: “This is a fast-moving investigation and we are working closely with those at the affected site to keep them updated.
“The investigation is still in its early stages and we are exploring various lines of enquiry to establish any potential motivation as well as to identify whether there may be any further risk to the public linked to this matter.
“We understand the public may be concerned and as always, I would ask them to remain vigilant and if they see or hear anything that concerns them, then to contact us.
“‘We are working closely with local officers in the areas where we have made arrests today and I’d like to thank police colleagues around the country for their ongoing support.”
It comes as three more men were arrested in London yesterday as part of a Counter Terrorism operation.
Two of the men, aged 39 and 44, were arrested at separate addresses in north-west London.
A 55-year-old man was also apprehended at a third address in west London.
The arrests form part of an investigation being led by the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command and police said they are not connected to the arrests of the five men also made on Saturday.
The London trio were arrested and detained under section 27 of the National Security Act 2023 and remain in custody, a police statement said.
Searches also continue at the three addresses across London.
In an early-morning statement on Sunday, Home Secretary Yvette Cooper praised Britain’s police and security forces after Saturday’s spate of arrests.
“I want to thank the police and our security services for the action they have taken to keep our country safe. Protecting national security is the first duty of Government and our police and security services have our strong support in their vital work,” she said.
“These are serious events that demonstrate the ongoing requirement to adapt our response to national security threats.
“The Government continues to work with police and intelligence agencies to support all the action and security assessments that are needed to keep the country safe.”
The arrests come amid heightened scrutiny of Iran-backed activities in the UK.
In August, Matt Jukes, the head of Counter Terror Policing, warned that Britain is facing an increase in plots by hostile states.
He said Iranian dissidents and diaspora communities have been “clearly at risk of kidnapping or assassination”.
Counter terror police have investigated 15 of these cases alongside MI5.
MI5 has responded to 20 plots backed by Iran since 2022, it was reported.
