HONOLULU (KHON2) — Boating is a big recreational sport in Hawaii. So when massive superyachts join the ranks of vessels, people take notice.

At 387 feet long, Launchpad is one of the largest private yachts in the world. Built by Dutch shipyard Feadship, this superyacht is packed with high-end features, high-tech systems and everything needed for luxury travel at sea.

Owned by Meta Platforms Inc. CEO Mark Zuckerberg, Launchpad is designed to explore the open ocean in comfort, privacy and style.

Alongside a $30 million support vessel named Wingman, this yacht is part of a high-performance fleet.

Here are seven things to know about the yacht that’s turning heads in the maritime world.

1. Launchpad is longer than a football field

The yacht measures 387 feet in length and has a gross tonnage of 5,528 GT (gross tons). That makes it much larger than most private vessels. Its long, sleek design includes a Flag Blue hull and flowing lines that help it glide across the water efficiently.

2. It can host 26 guests and a crew of 42

Inside Launchpad are 13 cabins that can house up to 26 guests. These spaces are designed for both relaxation and high-end comfort. The superyacht also carries 42 crew members who help operate the ship and serve guests around the clock.

3. There are two helipads

Launchpad features two certified helipads, making it possible for helicopters to land and take off directly from the vessel. This allows for quick travel to and from remote locations without needing to dock. It also adds to the superyacht’s flexibility for adventure or emergency use.

4. Enjoy a pool with a movable floor

One of the standout features on the top deck is a swimming pool with a movable floor. The depth can be adjusted depending on how deep someone wants to swim, or the floor can rise all the way up to become a solid surface. This makes the space useful for both water fun and open-air lounging.

5. The fully enclosed observation lounge experience

At the highest point of the superyacht is a fully enclosed observation lounge with wraparound windows. It’s designed for taking in wide ocean views while staying protected from the wind and weather. This pod-like space offers comfort without sacrificing the view.

6. Owner’s deck with a hot tub

The owner’s deck features a private outdoor area complete with a circular stone and glass hot tub. Positioned on the foredeck, this hot tub provides a serene environment for relaxation, offering sweeping views of the horizon. The design emphasizes privacy and luxury that caters to the owner’s desire for exclusive leisure spaces.

7. Beach club area

Launchpad boasts a spacious beach club area that enhances the superyacht’s connection to the sea. This area serves as a base for water activities and offers easy access to the ocean for swimming, diving or lounging. The design focuses on comfort and convenience to ensure guests can enjoy the marine environment to the fullest.

8. Wellness zone

The wellness zone aboard Launchpad introduces a calming zen ambiance and features elements like bamboo accents and Japanese-style paneled glass doorways. This tranquil retreat is designed to promote relaxation and well-being and provides guests with a serene environment to unwind during their voyage.

9. Cinema-theatre

For entertainment, Launchpad includes a cinema-theatre that allows guests to enjoy films in a luxurious setting. The space is designed to offer high-quality viewing experiences that combine comfort with state-of-the-art audiovisual technology.

10. Beauty center and spa

The superyacht is equipped with a beauty center and spa facilities that offer a range of treatments to pamper guests. These amenities are designed to provide relaxation and rejuvenation that ensures guests can indulge in luxury during their time aboard.

11. Hot tubs and solarium

Multiple hot tubs are strategically placed throughout the yacht to provide guests with options to relax and enjoy the surroundings. Additionally, a solarium on the teak decks offers a sun-soaked space for lounging and enjoying the open air.

12. Water toys and inflatable slides

To enhance the maritime experience, Launchpad is equipped with various water toys that include inflatable slides and other recreational equipment. These additions ensure that guests have ample opportunities for fun and adventure on the water.

13. Wingman is the support vessel

Traveling alongside Launchpad is a 247-foot support vessel named Wingman. It carries extra fuel, supplies, watercraft and other toys, such as smaller boats and equipment for water sports. Support vessels like this are common amongst large yachts for carrying extra gear and staff.

14. The superyacht has four diesel engines

Launchpad is powered by four diesel engines. Each engine can burn about 291 gallons of diesel fuel per hour. These engines provide the strength needed to power a vessel of this size across long distances and rough seas.

15. It is part of the high-emissions world of superyachts

According to studies on maritime emissions, superyachts like Launchpad can produce thousands of tons of carbon dioxide each year. A 2024 report on billionaire-owned yachts found that some private vessels emit the same amount of carbon as hundreds of passenger cars annually. These emissions mostly come from fuel use, on-board generators and travel distances.

16. The yacht was built for global travel and remote access

With long-range capabilities, private helipads and its own support vessel, Launchpad is made for travel to far-off destinations. Its systems are designed to operate with minimal need for onshore support, making it possible to stay at sea for long periods while maintaining comfort and connectivity.

Superyachts like Launchpad are more than just boats. They are floating mansions equipped for adventure, privacy, and performance.

Built with state-of-the-art design and engineering, they show what’s possible when technology and luxury meet on the open ocean.
