Brian Austin Green says ‘toxic’ Vanessa Marcil relationship ‘felt like Vietnam’

Brian Austin Green likened his four-year relationship with Vanessa Marcil to the Vietnam War.

“Relationships have been interesting for me,” Green, 50, explained Monday on his “Oldish” podcast, admitting that he “had some major missteps” after seeking out partners who were “the complete opposite” of his mother.

“The relationship that I had with Vanessa was very toxic in that way. It wasn’t a loving, caring relationship,” the “Beverly Hills, 90210” star claimed.

Green — who was engaged to Marcil for two years until their 2003 split — recalled his mom “smothering” him and making “everything” about him when he was growing up.

“And then with Vanessa, it was not that at all,” he claimed, elaborating that the actress, 56, had a different way of showing love.

“And then after two years or so, you’re kinda looking at yourself in the mirror, and you’re like, ‘Who am I? There’s not one piece of me that’s left,’” he remembered thinking.

The actor also noticed that his relationships with “everyone” around him had “changed.”

“So that relationship ended up not working out. Then Megan [Fox] was a breath of fresh air coming out of what felt like Vietnam to me,” said Green, who went on to marry Fox in 2010 and welcome three sons with her: Noah, 12, Bodhi, 11, and Journey, 8.

After they separated in 2020, Green moved on with fiancée Sharna Burgess, with whom he shares son Zane, 2. Meanwhile, Fox gave birth to a baby girl — her first child with on-again, off-again boyfriend Machine Gun Kelly — in March.

Despite his negative feelings toward his relationship with Marcil, Green expressed gratitude for the fact that his “amazing” son Kassius, 23, “came out of that” union in 2002.

“I absolutely loved being a parent, and I think that was the first time in my life where I really felt like, ‘This is what I’m supposed to be doing,’” he gushed.

According to the “Knots Landing” star, parenting came “naturally” to him; however, Marcil previously accused him and Fox of “trying to get full custody” of Kassius, only to “completely cut [him] out of their lives.”

The “General Hospital” star also claimed she “raised [her] son alone,” prompting Green to blast her “continued lies.”

Reps for Marcil did not immediately respond to Page Six’s request for comment.
