The trailer comes just days after the game’s developers announced that GTA 6 will be delayed until next year.

WASHINGTON — Rockstar Games released a new trailer for the highly-anticipated Grand Theft Auto VI on Tuesday.

The nearly 3-minute-long trailer gives viewers a closer look at the GTA 6 storyline, the movie-like graphics and the possibilities of its new setting, the Miami-inspired Vice City. The trailer also comes just days after the game’s developers announced that GTA 6 will be delayed until next year.

When is GTA 6 coming out?

Grand Theft Auto VI was originally slated for a fall 2025 release but was pushed back to May 26, 2026, extending the already long wait for the next installment of the cult-classic video game series. It has been over a decade since the last Grand Theft Auto was released.

“Jason and Lucia have always known the deck is stacked against them. But when an easy score goes wrong, they find themselves on the darkest side of the sunniest place in America, in the middle of a criminal conspiracy stretching across the state of Leonida — forced to rely on each other more than ever if they want to make it out alive,” the caption on the trailer read.

The website for the game now includes more information on the different characters, providing small biographies for each character, according to IGN.

The game characters revealed so far are protagonists Jason Duval and Lucia Caminos, the first female protagonist in the franchise. Cal Hampton, Dre’Quan Priest, Raul Bautista, Brian Heder, Real Dimez and Boobie Ike are the supporting characters announced so far.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s new release date means the game will arrive nearly 30 months after the original trailer debuted in December 2023.

In a statement on May 2, Rockstar apologized that the new release date is later than many expected.

“The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” the company said. “With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”

Editor’s note: The following is a trailer for a Rated M game. It may not be appropriate for all audiences.
