A car hit two bicyclists from Georgia who were traveling in Columbia County Tuesday, critically injuring a man and killing a woman.
VALDOSTA, Ga. — A man in his 70s was critically injured and a woman in her 50s was killed when they were hit by a car in Columbia County on Tuesday, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.
FHP said they responded to the scene on Northwest Lake Jeffery Road in Lake City at 1:08 p.m. Tuesday. They determined a silver Hyundai Elantra was traveling west and struck two bicyclists who were also heading west.
A 72-year-old man from Valdosta, Georgia, was critically injured. A 51-year-old woman, also from Valdosta, was pronounced dead.
The injured man was taken to Shands UF for treatment.
The driver was not injured.
FHP told First Coast News the driver is expected to receive a civil infraction.
