The Valley Season 2, Episode 4 Recap: A Circle Of Resentment

The Valley Season 2 cast are heading to Santa Barbara in Episode 4, and it’s going to be an interesting vacation as everyone received an invitation. Jesse Lally, who was the one to plan the trip, also invited his estranged spouse, Michelle Saniei. Seeing how things went down during what was supposed to be a fun event at Dave & Buster’s in Episode 3 — in which Jesse’s text about her being an escort came to light — it’s certain to be yet another compelling reality TV moment.

Before launching into Episode 4, viewers also saw Jax Taylor committing himself to rehab for his mental health for 30 days. Before he headed to the facility, he had another blow up with Brittany Cartwright, in which she threatened him with divorce, a restraining order, and full custody of their son, Cruz.

Brittany Receives “Rage Texts” On Her Trip To Santa Barbara

Episode 4 starts off with the entire cast packing a suitcase and heading to Santa Barbara. Everyone is invited, including a couple of former friends who are currently feuding — Janet Caperna and Zack Wickham. Jesse Lally, who planned the entire trip, invited his ex, Michelle Saniei, and no, she didn’t get enough votes to kick him out of his own rental.

Michelle and her new boyfriend, Aaron Nosler, have lunch where they discuss the upcoming trip. “Honestly, I have so many emotions,” she tells him. This is coming off of a very emotional trip to Dave & Buster’s in Episode 3, where Michelle learned that Jesse sent a text to his friends alleging that she was an escort. Michelle hit back at her ex, telling her friends that he was totally “broke.”

Kristen Doute and Zack are also seen discussing the trip. Zack is preparing for the worst with Janet.

“Every fiber in my being is worried that this is going to be an insane s *** show.”

Meanwhile, Brittany Cartwright already appears stressed, and it’s not even about the Santa Barbara trip. While Jax Taylor is in rehab, he continues to “rage text” her. “One of the main reasons Jax is in this mental health facility right now is because of his anger issues, his rage. And I actually thought that whenever he was in there for 30 days, that I would be able to have some kind of peace,” she said.

For Michelle, her plan during this trip is to “avoid Jesse as much as possible.” Jesse, on the other hand, wants to see some sort of resolve between the two. That’s wishful thinking. He even gives his friends, and Michelle, a white flag before they step in as a peace offering. She’s not letting Jesse slide with all the ways he’s treated her after their separation.

The group head to their first activity and it’s racing remote-control cars. They all seem to actually be having a good time together, but immediately, Brittany continues to receive rage texts from Jax. Brittany shows Kristen all the texts she’s gotten from him, and they are alarming. Some include Jax stating, “you took my son from me,” “disgusting,” “you took my job away from me…”

After their race, Jesse — who wanted to be the peacemaker — confronts Janet and Brittany, accusing them of bullying his girlfriend, who he claims is now just his friend. However, they let Jesse know that she’s been threatening Michelle, the mother of his child. Jesse brings up Michelle allegedly cheating on him during their marriage, to which Janet, who walks away from him, replies, “If I was married to you, I would be cheating on you, too.” Ouch.

Back at the house, Zack pulls Janet aside for a chat. Janet hopes for an apology from him, and he admits his faults, but not without sharing that he believes she’s had some as well. Tearfully, Zack shares that he misses their friendship, and after a much-needed conversation they let things go, for now, and hug it out.

A Circle Of Gratitude Ends In Tears

Jesse hopes that the trip will somehow help his fractured relationship with Michelle, but his actions haven’t shown that, considering he just got into it with Janet. “I came into this trip with the idea that we could let everything go, leave everything in L.A. and so far, it was a failed mission,” he admits in a confessional.

Kristen hires a spiritual healer for the group. The healer wants each person to let go of any bad energy and accept something positive moving forward. Brittany goes up first when she shares that she is determined to release “hatred and resentment” while “accepting happiness.” Michelle goes next, where she releases “stress and anxiety.” She shares that she is “accepting a new life with happiness and love.” Meanwhile, Jesse sits and watches. Despite looking tearful, he refuses to participate in the activity, stating that it is tough to see Michelle looking “cold.”

In a confessional, Jesse shares, “Do I wanna get up there and throw flowers on the ground and say I wanna release animosity towards Michelle?”

After everyone else joins in, Jason shares that he also hopes everyone can also think of Jax, hoping that rehab will truly help him become a better person.

We then get a video message from Jax inside the facility. He admits that he had a tough time getting used to it at first. In fact, he continues to harbor ill will towards Brittany, stating that he wished she would check in on him more often because, as they were still married, they promised one another to stick through it all, “in sickness and in health.” However, it’s clear that the damage has already been done, now it’s up to Jax to change for himself and his son.

“I can’t keep going like this, it’s just killing me, it’s killing my wife, it’s killing my family,” he tearfully shares.

Back at the gratitude circle, the group plays a game in which they throw a ball and share what they are thankful for. Jesse gets the ball and immediately tears up while spilling, “I’m in the middle of a very toxic situation right now and the fact that Isabella is thriving is amazing, so I’m grateful for that.” Meanwhile, Michelle remained stone-faced. However, she did not put up the facade for long. Having the ball thrown at her by Jesse, she admits, “A great moment was when we were deciding to have a child together.” It gets the entire group to tear up with Jesse deciding to leave angrily.

“All good things come to an end,” Jesse states in a confessional.
