Here’s what singer Brad Arnold is saying about the cancer diagnosis he just received and why he’s apologizing to 3 Doors Down fans.

3 Doors Down frontman Brad Arnold surprised his fans with the heartbreaking announcement that he has Stage 4 Cancer.

The singer shared the news via the band’s Instagram account on May 7 with a video explaining that he hadn’t been feeling right and decided to go to the hospital and get checked out.

“I got the diagnosis that I had clear cell renal carcinoma that had metastasised into my lung. And that’s stage four,” the 46-year-old explained. “And that’s not real good.”

“You know what, we serve almighty God, and he can overcome anything. So I have no fear. I am really, sincerely not scared of it at all. But it is going to force us to cancel our tour this summer,” he said before issuing an apology: “We’re sorry for that.”

Arnold added: “I’d love for you to lift me up in prayer every chance you get, and I think it’s time for me to maybe go listen to ‘It’s Not My Time’ a little bit, right?”

3 Doors Down formed in Escatawpa, Mississippi, in 1996, and are known for hits in the early 2000s including “Kryptonite,” “Here Without You,” “When I’m Gone,” and “It’s Not My Time.” The group’s debut album, Better Life, was certified platinum six times. They sold more than 13 million albums in the U.S., received three Grammy nominations, and won two American Music Awards.

The band had several tour dates scheduled for later this month and throughout the summer.

Clear cell renal carcinoma is the most common type of kidney cancer. According to Cancer Research U.K., 15 out of 100 people (15%) with stage 4 kidney cancer survive their cancer for five years or more after they’re diagnosed.
