A teenage boy has found his parents seriously injured on the road at a notorious Adelaide intersection after they were hit by a van while walking their dog.

The 48-year-old woman and her 51-year-old husband are in hospital following the incident on Montacute Road in Newton just before 9am.

“There was a couple crossing the road with their dog. The van hit both people. The lady landed on the floor and he ran over her,” witness Sandra Liberatore said.

The couple’s teenage son arrived at the scene to find his parents injured.

“He was in tears … he was just inconsolable,” Liberatore said.

The 48-year-old woman sustained critical head injuries and was rushed to hospital. Her husband is also receiving treatment for serious injuries. The dog was unharmed.

The driver of the van, a 91-year-old Rostrevor man, was visibly upset following the crash.

He has been reported for two counts of dangerous driving and has had his driver’s licence suspended indefinitely.

The incident has reignited concerns among local residents about the safety of the intersection.
