DRAMATIC videos show a popular Spanish tourist hotspot being battered by freak rain and hail, flooding roads across the area.

Towns across the Valencia region were pummelled by the ghastly storm, turning streets into rivers and bringing traffic to a standstill.

Footage of the jaw-dropping scenes have gone viral across social media, with some showing pounding hail and gushing rainwater surging through towns.

The freak weather will give residents chilling memories of last year’s catastrophic flash floods in Spain that killed more than 200 people.

Some videos make the Mediterranean holiday spot look almost arctic, with white hail coating itself along the pavements.

The vicious downpour appears to have forced residents inside their homes, with many streets empty save for the settling hail.

Few, if any, people can be seen outside in many of the videos as the blistering weather forces residents and visitors to take shelter.

Cars parked on the roads are often caked with hail, with some vehicles even partially buried in thick layers.

Roads lines can barely be seen as the downpour turns streets into fast-flowing rivers.

The relentless hail is reported to have pummelled towns including Guadasséquies, Calles, Villar del Arzobispo, and l’Olleria.

Brit holidaymakers hoping for an escape to the sun will be disappointed as Spain faces weather warnings across the country.

Valencia has long been a popular tourist destination, but the dramatic weather will throw many holidaymakers’ plans into doubt.

Residents and visitors might typically expect warmer weather at this time of the year.

But AEMET, the country’s state weather agency, warned today: “Unstable conditions are expected to remain across most of the country.”

It adds: “Showers and thunderstorms are likely to be locally strong in Galicia, as well as in the Balearic Islands and coastal areas of Catalonia, where they could be locally very strong in the early morning.”

Valencia’s Emergency Coordination Centre was scrambled, deploying 1,000 troops to clear debris, according to EuroWeekly News.

As many as 2,000 people around Valencia are still displaced from the late 2024 freak weather, according to the Housing Department.

The weather agency posted on social media: “Thursday marked by storms. Attention, they will be strong in areas of Galicia and the centre and east of the Peninsula. They may be accompanied by hail.

“In parts of the interior of the Valencian Community, they could be very strong, adn the alert is orange (significant danger).”

It comes after Spain was hit by a massive blackout that affected most of the country – as well as Portugal – on April 28.

Airports and hospitals were shut down and trains ground to a halt across the Iberian peninsula.

Officials blamed a “rare atmospheric phenomenon” for the power cut.
