JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office shared Friday that Officer Sandy James died last week at the age of 58.

James had worked for JSO since 2004. She began as a patrol officer and later became an evidence technician before being diagnosed with cancer in 2016.

She continued working in the JSO building after her diagnosis and remained on the job until two days before her death.

“Despite her illness, she maintained a positive outlook and was known for her constant smile,” JSO wrote in a statement.

Her mother, Britta James, remembers her as an extremely generous person.

“Sandy had cancer for nine years and fought it so hard,” she said. “She loved her job… when she saw people in need, she did her best to help them throughout her life.”
