In 2015, Shelton and Lambert announced that they had finalized their divorce. Rumors about the couple’s turbulent marriage had swirled for some time before this, but they’d always denied facing any serious problems. While they have not shared the reason for their split, both spoke about how difficult the divorce was.

“I’m in a good place,” Shelton told CMT’s Hot 20 Countdown (per Good Morning America) in October 2015. “I wasn’t, but I am now. It’s amazing how quickly life can turn around for you.”

Though he didn’t mention it, at this point, Shelton was likely romantically involved with Gwen Stefani, whom he said saved his life. Before they started dating, though, he said he was in a lot of pain. He began mowing his lawn as a way to cope.

“One day, in the middle of crisis and chaos in my personal life, I walked out and I was just thinking, ‘What’s going on in my life?’” he said. “[And] what the hell is going on with my yard?! Are you kidding me, it’s like 3 feet tall out here.”

The chore led to him dropping 20 pounds.

“I would like to sit here and tell you I’ve been exercising, but I haven’t been,” he said. “I push mow my lawn.”

Before his marriage ended, Shelton said the idea of divorce didn’t feel possible to him. 

“I don’t know that I ever really had any doubts,” he told CBS This Morning, per HuffPost. “We had our ups and downs for damn sure along the way. I just could not imagine her not being in my life, I just couldn’t get over her, I know I can’t.”

He felt so confident in their relationship that rumors of their divorce on tabloid covers didn’t bother him.

“I love it,” Shelton said. “I honestly do love it. I just know, to have that kind of coverage, if I’m popular enough they want to put me and Miranda on that stuff — that’s awesome. I have an album coming out! Put my album right next to it and pick it up.”

Shelton and Lambert even joked about the rumors on social media.

His current wife reportedly wants him to lose weight

In 2024, Stefani reportedly hoped Shelton would lose weight by taking more drastic measures than just mowing the lawn.

“His weight yo-yos up and down, he’ll lose weight and then go right back to his bad habits and pile it all on again,” a source told Life & Style. “Everyone agrees something needs to change for the sake of his health.”

She reportedly wanted him to go to a weight loss facility while she coached The Voice.

“She can’t watch him every second, which makes a weight loss facility even more appealing,” the source said. “He can get professional help, exercise and understand why he’s reaching for the potato chips and beer, and get his weight back down to a healthier place.”
