Americans have been left questioning if Australia is “even a real place” after stumbling across the name of a tiny town in South Australia.

This week, a content creator from the US known as ‘Bavid Doughy’ gained a lot of attention online when he stumbled upon a charming little beach town north of Adelaide called Tiddy Widdy Beach.

The town, which has a population of just 195 people, is well known for its holiday homes, crabbing spots and beaches.

According to the SA tourism website, the interesting name originates from a well situated to the north of the town that was referred to by the local indigenous community as ‘Tiddy Widdy Ned’.

In a video that garnered over 2 million views, the American creator explored the area using Google Maps and stumbled upon several other amusing names in the town.

“In Tiddy Widdy Beach, just off of Tiddy Widdy road, there’s a little bed and breakfast called the Schmidty at Tiddy Widdy,” he laughed.

“And one of the reviews for the Schmidty at Tiddy Widdy says, ‘Feeling giddy, doing a little diddy, being witty at The Schmidty.”

Aussies were quick to flood the comments with other bizarre names of towns and sights.

“There’s a cave in South Australia literally called “Well It Wasn’t There Last Year”,” said one.

“There’s a suburb named Humpybong too,” added another.

“Don’t forget about Mount Disappointment in Victoria,” laughed a third.

“We named a swimming pool after a prime minister who went swimming at the beach and disappeared so that tells you something,” added a fourth.

Confused Americans also chimed in, saying it was “more proof that Australia isn’t real.”

“This sounds like a Dr Seuss novel,” said one.

“Cool so in Australia, things are either whimsical or terrifying. Nothing in between,” said another.

“Australia is a fever dream come to life,” laughed a third.

Just last year, a 62-year-old was stabbed multiple times after he was attacked while confronting someone breaking into houses at Tiddy Widdy Beach.

In an unusual twist, his attacker’s life was saved by members of the community in 2023 after his car crashed into a parked truck and burst into flames.

In 2017, the small town was rocked by an alleged murder-suicide that claimed the life of a seven-year-old boy and his 42-year-old mother.
