JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. (WJHL) — David Crockett High School students have teamed up with businesses and a local disaster recovery group to host a plant drive for those impacted by Hurricane Helene.

The David Crockett Future Farmers of America (FFA) is looking for volunteers and donated plants to be planted at newly built houses along the Nolichucky River.

Students will use the skills learned in FFA to help those affected.

“With Hurricane Helene, how it devastated our community, just trying to re-beautify these houses that are along the river and the houses that are rebuilt because the silt out there, I mean there is nothing,” sophomore Max Sanders said. “But we want to give just a little bit of a sense of hope.”

Plants can be dropped off at the high school. All types of plants are being accepted, but the FFA also has suggestions.

They hope to run the plant drive through the end of May.
