While temperatures have been up, rainfall has been down.

Weatherzone found that there was a mere 1.2mm of rainfall recorded in Melbourne this month, following the below-average rainfall trends seen in the past three months.

But the surprisingly nice weather is about to end this weekend as a cold front over Tasmania grazes over Victoria.

Showers and a maximum of 15 degrees are forecast on Saturday, and easing showers and a maximum of 14 degrees are forecast on Sunday.

Come next week, the weather is expected to pick back up again.

Sunny conditions and temperatures nearing 20 degrees are forecast for Monday and Tuesday.

Weatherzone said there is no indication that cold and wet weather will return in the medium to long term, despite being weeks out from winter.

Parts of the country have recorded their driest start to the year on record due to a lack of autumn rain.

It’s worsened drought conditions in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.
