ELIZABETHTON, Tenn. (WJHL) —The Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter urges families considering adopting a new pet to consider the 17 puppies and 24 dogs recently rescued from hoarding situations.

The animal shelter posted on social media that it rescued 17 puppies from a hoarding situation on Tuesday. The puppies range from 10 to 16 weeks old.

On Wednesday, the animal shelter removed another 24 dogs of various breeds from two locations.

We are so over capacity at this point! We have some wonderful dogs available for adoption! Please, Please if you are looking for a new companion to join your family, come adopt one of our canines! If you would like to volunteer, please come by and see us!

Shannon Posada, the director of the Elizabethton/Carter County Animal Shelter, said that the shelter currently has around 60 dogs looking for new homes.

“We want to welcome everyone to come by and take a look at these animals,” Posada said. “You know, maybe it’s the next companion that may be a fit for your home, and that’s what we want. We want these guys. We can’t change their past, but we are definitely trying real hard to change their future and the homes that they go into now.”

The Elizabethon/Carter County Animal Shelter is located at 135 Sycamore Shoals Drive in Elizabethton.
