A pair of cowardly car thieves have left an elderly man for dead in south-east Queensland.
Stanley Parkes survived after the duo ran a red light and smashed a stolen SUV into him at an intersection in Logan, south of Brisbane.

Now, the 79-year-old is asking for the public’s help in tracking them down.

“If I would’ve been a bit further out, I would’ve been dead, dead as anything,” Parkes said.

The thieves were caught on camera fleeing the scene of the Kingston crash.

“We were actually walking along this street when it happened,” witness Dannelle Lamberth tells 9News.

“The minute we heard the big bang, he would of at least been going at least 80Ks.”

The Haval SUV collided with the Subaru with Parkes inside just after 5pm yesterday.

“Scary it was, I’m not kiddin’ ya, it was real bad,” he told 9News.

The senior had just left his home a few streets away to grab some cereal from the local shops when the incident occurred.

“He sort of come and veered in on me, ya know? And I couldn’t go anywhere from there,” Parkes said.

“I was just stuck and he took the whole front of me car with him.

“I thought, ‘God! No car no more’. It was in good condition, that car of mine too.”

The pair inside the stolen Haval took off across the road and down the street. Tonight, they’re still on the run.

“They just left an old man, a senior man just helpless and didn’t even check to see if he was OK either,” witness Kristee Heyden told 9News.

Kind strangers are rallying behind the 79-year-old, donating their own money to help him buy a new car.

“A little bit of good news out of a really bad sad story,” Heyden said.

“I can’t ask for any nicer people than that,” Parkes said.
