WHITE HEATH, Ill. (WCIA) — Starting your own business can be a scary thought, but not for fourth graders at White Heath Elementary School.

After weeks of planning, students got to show off their entrepreneurial skills at the school’s library. They made everything from baked goods to jewelry and even set their own prices. On Friday, kids had the chance to see what other classmates developed, and they said this creative assignment taught some valuable lessons.

“It was great to have all the kids learn about business and economics and services,” said fourth grader Emma Gallivan.

“We learned about like goods and needs and wants, and we learned how to use money,” said student Emily Harrington. “And it was really enjoyable because we got to make our own product.”

Students said they enjoyed this type of project and hope it continues to be a part of the fourth-grade curriculum.
