Xabi Alonso hasn’t even taken the reins at Real Madrid yet, but the incoming manager has already made a decisive impact in the transfer market.

Bournemouth have confirmed that Spanish international Dean Huijsen will join the reigning La Liga champions at the end of the 2024/25 season, with Madrid activating his £50 million release clause.

Huijsen, 20, had attracted significant Premier League interest, including offers from Liverpool, Arsenal, and Chelsea, but opted for the Bernabéu after direct talks with Alonso, who personally endorsed the deal according talkSPORT.

Madrid will pay the fee in three installments through 2026. The player is expected to be available for the Club World Cup starting June 15.

Bournemouth, who benefitted from Huijsen’s standout campaign (30 league appearances, 3 goals), acknowledged the move while affirming their intent to work with him until season’s end.

The defender’s rise has also earned him a senior cap for Spain.
