CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (WCIA) — The armed subject who barricaded himself in Champaign has been arrested by Champaign County Sheriff’s deputies.

Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman told WCIA that the subject has been taken into custody without incident. The standoff occurred near the intersection of Halifax and Maynard Drives.

Champaign County Sheriff Dustin Heuerman told WCIA that deputies are on the scene of an armed and barricaded subject. There are at least seven sheriff’s office vehicles at a residence in the area of Champaign and Maynard Drive, which is currently blocked off by deputies. Officials ask that people avoid the area.
