Replacing the late great Taylor Hawkins as  the drummer of the Foo Fighters was always going to be a mammoth task, but after just two years, Josh Freese has been given the sack. The news is another knock to the band who were left shaken after Dave Grohl’s secret affair rocked the band just months ago in September last year.

Many thought Freese would become the permanent drummer of the band after Hawkins’ death in 2022, but after the latest announcement that prophecy seems to have been put to bed. Taking to Instagram to reveal the news of his sudden sacking, the drummer posted: “The Foo Fighters called me Monday night to let me know they’ve decided ‘to go in a different direction with their drummer.’ No reason was given. Regardless, I enjoyed the past two years with them, both on and off stage, and I support whatever they feel is best for the band.

“In my 40 years of drumming professionally, I’ve never been let go from a band, so while I’m not angry, just a bit shocked and disappointed.

“But as most of you know, I’ve always worked freelance and bounced between bands, so I’m fine. Stay tuned for my ‘Top 10 possible reasons Josh got booted from the Foo Fighters’ list.”

The 52-year-old has already played for some big-name rock bands having performed for Guns N’ Roses, Sting, Nine Inch Nails and Weezer before coming on board to Dave Grohl’s band. He joined in 2023 just after they recorded their first album But Here We Are after Hawkin’s death.

The news is another blow to the band when frontman and founder Dave Grohl revealed he had become the father of a child during an affair with a fan.

The mother of Grohl’s baby is 38-year-old Jennifer Young who confirmed that her baby was born on August 1, 2024, and revealed that Grohl was the last name listed on the birth certificate.

Posting to Instagram, the former Nirvana drummer admitted to having a child with a woman that wasn’t his wife Jordyn Blum as he posted: “I’ve recently become the father of a new baby daughter, born outside of my marriage. I plan to be a loving and supportive parent to her.

“I love my wife and my children, and I am doing everything I can to regain their trust and earn their forgiveness. We’re grateful for your consideration toward all the children involved, as we move forward together.”

According to reports from People Magazine, a divorce is off the cards with a source telling them, “He’s no longer working with a divorce attorney and instead hoping to work things out with his wife.”
