Olly Murs was met with boos by his own fans as he made a strange admission during a show on Friday.

The X Factor star, 41, had taken his 15 Years of Hits tour to Liverpool, where he was greeted by a packed out audience ready to belt out his biggest hits.

But the Troublemaker singer turned the atmosphere sour halfway through the performance as he let one of his band members ’embarrass’ him in front of the crowd.

Olly paused the show to tell the crowd: ‘On this part of the show, I have absolutely no idea what is about to appear on that screen,’ pointing to the visualiser behind him.

The photo that flashed up was one of Olly touching the This Is Anfield sign at Liverpool Football Club’s stadium, prompting a legion of rival Everton supporters in the crowd to start jeering the performer.

With half of the crowd cheering and the other half loud in their disapproval, Olly continued: ‘Of course this will probably get the biggest boo of the night.

‘I am a Manchester United fan.’

The singer then burst into laughter as boos became louder, before joking: ‘Shall I go?’

The rest of the show however went smoothly, with Olly belting out a host of his greatest hits to much fanfare.

The Liverpool Echo reported that at one point, there was a heart-warming moment as he remembered his friend Caroline Flack, who passed away in 2020.

Olly dedicated his song Dear Darling to Caroline after telling his supporters: ‘I genuinely think about her everyday.

‘I know that feeling of losing someone that you love very much. With this song, I want you to think of those people and sing with me.’

The 15 Years of Hits tour continues on Saturday at the O2 in London before the singer heads to the OVO Arena Wembley on Sunday.

Before he embarked on the tour, Olly underwent a rigorous 12-week diet and exercise regime organised by a team of dedicated professionals.

And the hard work seems to have paid off, with fans noticing the singer is in the best shape of his life.

Olly’s personal trainer Rob Solly gave MailOnline an insight into Olly’s hard work in the gym earlier this month.

‘The level of intensity was higher than a regular session as we had a clear deadline to peak for. This wasn’t about staying generally fit, it was about getting Olly stage-ready,’ he explained.

‘It was crucial that he stayed injury-free because this isn’t a one-day photo shoot, it’s a 20-plus-date arena tour.’

‘We focused on mobility, addressing any minor niggles early, building in dynamic warm-ups, and using pre-hab exercises to keep him resilient and in top form not just for opening night, but for the entire five weeks and beyond.’

Rob said Olly’s sessions are built around ‘compound exercises’ like ‘deadlifts, lunges, squats, dips and pull-ups’.

‘Obviously, there’s lots more to it than that, but these exercises build strong foundations, and they hit several muscles at once,’ he said.

‘Up and down the country people are doing the same exercises. The key to the next level of success is the overload, intensity and recovery of the exercises.’
