Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was once in a position where he never had to worry about money. The music mogul was worth well over half a billion dollars just a few years ago. Since his arrest, however, his net worth has taken a hit. Still, Combs reportedly still has millions. Here’s how he might be spending this money while behind bars.

Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs has faced money trouble since his arrest

In 2019, Forbes estimated Combs was worth $740 million. At one point, he even claimed he was a billionaire, though he did not have any evidence to back this up. Combs has since faced arrest and a mountain of civil lawsuits, which have significantly chipped away at his wealth.

Now, Forbes estimates he is worth $400 million. That’s a loss of $350 million in under a decade.

Here’s how Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs can spend his money in jail

Combs is currently incarcerated in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center. After a life of riches and luxury, the bleak conditions at the jail have reportedly come as a shock. He can use some of his dollars at the commissary, however.

Combs is reportedly quite unhappy with the food at MDC. The commissary offers other options. He can purchase snacks like club crackers, Cheez-Its, cashews, granola, or chocolate covered pretzels. More substantial options include macaroni and cheese, bone in chicken meal, pouches of Spam, and tuna fish. He can enhance these items with options like peanut butter, curry powder, barbeque sauce, or jalapeno squeeze cheese. He can also purchase drinks like coffee, powdered milk, hot cocoa, and tea, as well as some powdered drink mixes.

Per the jail’s website, food options at the commissary sold for an average of $3.08 as of 2020. The most expensive food item, the rib steak meal, goes for $9.95.

Combs can also purchase other items at the commissary. Radios, typewriter ribbons, clothing, reading lights, toothbrushes, notebooks, laundry bags, aspirin, rosaries, lotion, dish soap, and more are available for purchase.

Combs can only purchase limited quantities of each item at a time and has a $180 limit every two weeks.

He has reportedly adopted a unique form of currency

While Combs is still worth multiple millions, he has reportedly resorted to a different form of currency in jail. Per The New York Times, Combs is using packets of mackerel as a form of currency.

A packet of mackerel filets sells for $1.00. Inmates are able to purchase up to 24 of these at one time.
