Storm Team 3: More summer-like heat for Tuesday, storms mid-week

Monday was a hot day with afternoon highs reaching the lower 90s. Heat index values made it into the upper 90s. Tuesday will be a few degrees warmer with highs reaching the mid 90s. Heat index values at times may make it into the triple digits.

We are tracking a strong system in the mid-section of the country that is producing strong and severe storms. There have been numerous severe storms and several tornado warnings that were issued across Oklahoma and into Missouri.

That same system is expected to bring a low chance for showers and storms to the Coastal Empire and Lowcountry on Wednesday. There will be a low-end risk that a few storms will become strong to severe with damaging wind gusts as the main concern.

The rest of the week will be mainly dry and slightly cooler as Wednesday’s system clears off of the coast. Afternoon highs will be near-normal in the mid to upper 80s.

Sunday and Memorial Day look to be a little warmer than Friday and Saturday with a few isolated showers or storms possible.
