Packers' Matt LaFleur makes Aaron Rodgers-Steelers prediction

A coach from Aaron Rodgers’ past is making a bold prediction about his future.

Matt LaFleur, the coach of the Packers, recently shared his thoughts on the future of his ex-quarterback during an interview on “Up & Adams” with host Kay Adams. LaFleur expressed his belief that the four-time league MVP will likely join the Steelers, despite the ongoing negotiations that have not reached a final agreement after several months of discussions.

“I haven’t heard from either of those guys,” LaFleur told Adams of Steelers coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith when asked if there had been offseason inquiries about Rodgers.

“I’m pretty sure they know what they’re doing, I’m sure they’re confident in what they’re doing, and I would fully expect him to be a Pittsburgh Steeler.”

Rodgers, 41, spent the first 18 years of his career with the Packers, playing under LaFleur from 2019-2022.

He was traded to the Jets in April 2023 following a messy offseason with Green Bay, where he won his lone Super Bowl at the conclusion of the 2010 season.

Rodgers underwhelmed during his two-year tenure in New York, with the team going 5-12 and missing the playoffs in 2024, his first full season under center.

He was sidelined the year before due to a season-ending Achilles injury.

The Jets released him earlier this year, paving the way for the Steelers to pounce in free agency.

Pittsburgh, coming off a 10-7 season with Justin Fields and Russell Wilson leading the charge, hosted Rodgers at their facility in March, with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting, “No deal at this time is close.”

A month later, Rodgers elaborated on his situation during an appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show,” revealing he’s tending to personal matters.

“I am trying to be open to everything and not specifically attached to anything when it comes to this decision,” Rodgers said. “I’m just going through a lot in my personal life that has to take precedent at this point.”

Rodgers made it clear he isn’t “stringing anybody along.”

The Steelers added veteran backup Mason Rudolph in free agency following the departures of Wilson to the Giants and Fields to the Jets.

The team also selected former Ohio State quarterback Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Should LaFleur’s prediction come true, fans will be in for a treat in Week 1 when the Steelers face the Jets at Rodgers’ former MetLife Stadium home.

Rodgers threw for 3,897 yards, 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 17 games last season.
