CHARLESTON, Ill. (WCIA) – The opening day of the 2025 IHSA girls’ track and field state meet did not lack impressive performances.

Thursday saw prelims for class 1A. 2A and 3A prelims are scheduled for Friday before finals across the board on Saturday.

Tuscola senior Lia Patterson advanced to finals in four events: 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, 200 and 4×200.

Shelbyville saw a handful of impressive performances, including the top time of the day in the 4×800 and a one-two finish from Aly Douglass and Lily Woolery in the second heat of the 800, both advancing to finals.

Warrensburg-Latham impressed in the throws. Cardinal throwers Emma Whightsil and Brenna Dutcher are both finals bound in both discus and shot put.

Sullivan’s Riane Bear and Villa Grove’s Evalice Callison were among the top 15 advancing to finals in high jump.

The WCIA viewing area was well-represented in the mile. Tuscola’s Kate Foltz, Maroa-Forsyth’s Klaire Eighner and two St. Anthony runners (Aubrey Denning and Isabella Keller) are all moving on to Saturday’s finals in the 1600.
